Issue 53: Your Morning Getaway

Sep 5, 2022

Written by Nir

Fall is almost here – so take advantage of those fading rays of summer these last few weeks. I’ll be honest with you – since we’re now right around the corner from Fall, I’ve started drinking iced pumpkin flavored coffee. What’s that? Is that the faint whisper of “This is Halloween” off in the distance? Maybe . . . We have some exciting news! We have a new community contest this month. The theme is Morning Getaway, and we have an exiting twist. We have accompanying art and piano chords for additional inspiration! As always, feel free to create a piece in any medium you’d like for the theme, and submit your piece by September 11th. Check out the Events channel in the Discord for more details.

Creator worth knowing ✨

Deep in the ocean, hundreds of thousands of artifacts wait to be discovered – treasures of old civilizations. In this piece, Forgotten Gods, we see that the crew of this boat has dredged up an ancient statue with all the junk. Where did this noble statue stand before its untimely demise?

Forgotten Gods

Adrien Girod has a great eye for light and shadow in this piece. Your eye is immediately drawn to the statue as the focal point. Everything is pointing to it – from the tiny monkeys to the seagulls lined up in the water. Another cool little feature is that the elements closest to the statue get the most detail. Everything else has just enough linework and color to portray its form. Check it out!

David’s Take 📝

Where is your muse? Is it a cup of coffee from that quiet little cafe, or your cozy chair by the fire? We all need a place where we can relax and open our creativity to its full potential. It’s hard to be creative when you’re feeling the stress and anxiety of outside influences. For example, when I ideate – I take a journal and pen to a coffee shop to write – and put my phone in my pocket. The setting and mindfulness of distractions help me to break out of the constant notification nightmare of my phone. If you need some useful ideas for finding your muse, this creativity challenge has several great prompts! Who knows? Maybe it could help you take your creative passion to the next level. I’ll leave you with this interesting talk by Rah Crawford about finding his muse – and how it contributed to his entrepreneurial journey.

That’s all for this week!
