We’ve got THREE really exciting announcements for you this week. It’s timeeee for the April Creative Brew Contest theme announcement! Are you ready? It’s Midnight Moments and you have until 10:00 PM PST on May 1 to submit your entry. What does the idea of Midnight Moments inspire for you? Remember, you can create in any medium you’d like – whether it’s a song, piece of art, photo – whatever you’d like! The entries are already pouring in. We can’t wait to see yours. 😄 We’ve also rolled out a brand NEW website to our creativebrew.io domain. It’s got a pretty slick design. Check it out! Last – but not least, we have an important question that we’re asking in the Newsletter Chat channel over the course of this week. If you have time, please pop into the brew and give us your opinion.

START BUILDING

A DASH OF SUGAR 🍬

  • No matter what you’re building – it’s always fun to add a touch of 3D. However – it can be difficult to find affordable or free resources. That’s where 3D Bay comes in! It’s a free plugin for Canva – or you can download directly from your browser. There’s a wide selection of images available – from plants to people, art, and more! Everything is completely free for commercial use too. Check it out.
  • Looking for some affordable art supplies that won’t break the bank? Artdillo is a marketplace for buying, selling, and upcycling your art supplies and materials. From brushes to paints, you can order used products from other artists. There’s even stuff you can get for free! Though still a small platform at the moment, it definitely has a lot of potential. Check it out.
  • Bytedance (the massive company behind TikTok) has built a really interesting Synth. It’s wild! It can take a basic input (like a MIDI tune) and transform it based on machine models for different instruments. There’s a lot of AI learning behind this Synth – and I look forward to finding out what people build with it. Apparently – you could even input a ‘meow’ from your cat and it could transform it? Wild stuff! Check it out.
  • Saving content to read later can be a complicated task – especially if you’re trying to avoid apps like Pocket. With Epub Press’s simple chrome or Safari extension, you can save any webpage for reading – online or off! You can even use it with multiple webpages – and save them all as one readable ebook. Check it out.
  • Rive is an online animation tool with a ton of powerful features. You can create and deploy animations to websites, apps, and games! Need an animation to dance when someone interacts with it? Say no more – Rive can handle logic and interactivity. Others can also hop in and work with you on a project too! There’s a ton of really cool examples in the community if you want to check out the platforms capabilities. Check it out.

CLASSIFIEDS* 📰

A BIT OF CREAM 🥛

What if the Nintendo DS came out in 2017? It’s a fascinating question that Umi explores in this design. It looks wild – but so did the Nintendo Switch back in the day. While we’re on the subject of gaming, why not go retro and start building some Isometric cities in Cytopia? This open source game looks like a lot of fun. Speaking of cities, check out this beautiful art of a future city built on the ruins of the past. Did you ever watch the dystopian short film Adam that was made in Unity? That was made back in 2016 – but it still looks sooo good. (Hopefully we’ll get the full story behind the idea someday). Speaking of chaotic dystopias, there’s a fun new design style in town called Neubrutalism – and it’s so fun. Check out this deep dive for all the deets. While you get to work emulating this new chaotic style for your website – you’ll need some chill beats to work to.

INSPIRATION 💡

What’s your copywriting game like? Yeah . . . Copywriting isn’t as fun as many of the other tasks we creators spend time on – but it’s absolutely one of the most important things we can work on! Every day – we’re persuaded to buy things online and irl – often through the use of copy. It’s what wins us over much of the time. An excellent example of this is Amazon Listing – all those descriptions are written just to get you to buy. One really good copywriting expert is Daniel Throssell – his Persuasive Page is a master sales page in getting you to sign up for his free emails (then eventually sell you courses). One of his many angles is his droll use of humor and wit. It’s hilarious – but it pulls you in. Case in point – are you tempted to sign up for his emails? Another great copywriting legend is the late Gary Halbert – best known for his long form copy and letters. Read through a few of them to get a feel for his bold headlines and conversational tone. They may just inspire you for that showstopping tweet or website headline!

That’s all for this week!
